When a celebrant is approached by a couple (or one party) that resides overseas, whether they have the opportunity to sit down for an initial meeting or not, it is imperative the celebrant acts promptly and professionally with the knowledge of the legal requirements necessary for the celebrant to solemnise their marriage according to law in Australia. The couple should feel confident that the celebrant they have contacted is can effectively liaise with them whilst they are overseas regarding the legal aspects and necessary documentation to solemnise their marriage.


3 HR MANAGING DIFFICULT CLIENTS
The role of a marriage celebrant is diverse and they need the skills to communicate and liaise with a diverse range of people, whether socio-economic, cultural, religious or just plain difficult.  Difficult clients are part of the cost of doing business and, as is often the case, the couple themselves may not be the difficult parties, but rather parents, bridal participants or guests, sometimes all four at one ceremony. When celebrants are faced with a difficult client it can sometimes be hard to know what to do as difficult clients can be difficult to handle!  Many marriage celebrants, as do many people, actively fear the thought of confrontation. However, sometimes difficult people are communicating important and valuable information about their concerns, needs, fears or they just may be difficult by nature.  Most scenarios can be effectively handled by simply understanding the process that can successfully put the situation back into perspective.
