LEEDERVILLE - LGBTI and Working with couples who reside overseas

2 HR WORKING WITH COUPLES WHO RESIDE OVERSEAS
When a celebrant is approached by a couple (or one party) that resides overseas, whether they have the opportunity to sit down for an initial meeting or not, it is imperative the celebrant acts promptly and professionally with the knowledge of the legal requirements necessary for the celebrant to solemnise their marriage according to law in Australia.

3 HR WORKING EFFECTIVELY WITH LGBTI PEOPLE – INCLUSION & RESPECT

The principles of this course include:

  • emotional and physical safety, and respectful and appropriate communication are basic human rights
  • members of the LGBTI community have the right to:
  1. express their feelings, needs and wants in a way that celebrants understand and can relate to
  2. a wedding - including the ceremony - that is inclusive and authentic, given the overwhelmingly heteronormative nature of the wedding industry
  3. feel embraced in developing a marriage ceremony that reflects them and how they live their lives
  4. be offered a safe, inclusive and non-judgemental environment at all times of the wedding planning process, including from marriage celebrants.
